If I want to be sure that there is new content available every day then it’s incumbent on me to keep writing. Sometimes I can sit down and all at once go through and complete a slew of posts often clearing out the drafts queue which is the preferable method for these things because it accomplishes the twin goal of clearing out clutter and providing steady content.
Thing is that’s not always easy and then I’m left scrambling…
Today is like that, Boxing Day, the day after Christmas.
Today wasn’t a day off for me really but since the people I work with in GB are off it wasn’t like there were things that could be done and the client’s offices were closed too. As far as I’m concerned I’ll get in the time, I even worked a little on Christmas Day itself but I’ll log in some time over the weekend and did some time today as well even if I didn’t stick to the rigid hours of the business day and all of that. My employer often gets their monies worth and then some.
I’m in the preliminary stages of the next big mess so there’s that but the thing that is really my focus is the big snowstorm that’s hitting with snow falling as I write this.
I fucking hate snow.
Maybe it’s because I’ve grown to be quite the curmudgeon but more likely it’s because every time it snows it means my profession suddenly becomes more along the lines of being a ditch digger as I am compelled to dig out the remains of the latest snow event. It’s not an easy thing either for two reasons, one being I live on a road with a double yellow line meaning they are plowing constantly throwing up a wall of ice in the bottom of my driveway and secondly because my driveway is wider than it is long.
This means at the bottom of the driveway I have a span of about 40 feet the faces the street so it quite literally is a wall of solidly packed snow and ice I have to dig out of.
I had been procrastinating over the last several days because I do have a snow thrower but it hasn’t run now in a few years meaning I need to take it apart and clean the thing to get it running again and that’s just another pain in the ass to deal with.
I had been meaning to do this all week and of course I kept putting it off in the hopes that the forecasters were wrong and we’d miss the brunt of the storm but it looks like exactly the opposite is happening and we will get quite the snowfall. Again, I’m on the fence about this because we are supposed to get rain as well in the next 48 hours following the storm but I know it likely won’t be enough or warm enough for long enough to get rid of everything.
Again, I hate snow.
Maybe I’ll take a before and after picture. Maybe I’ll get the snow thrower running in fact getting up super early tomorrow and being able to take it out in the morning do my driveway and even do the neighbor’s driveway even after I ‘yelled’ at them for shoveling the snow from their driveway onto my lot.
Fingers crossed I can get the stupid thing running easily but these things never seem to go as easily as I want them to.
It really can’t be March soon enough.
